Lyrics
When I was younger I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind.
He broke his own heart and I watched
As he tried to reassemble it.
And my momma swore
That she would never let herself forget.
And that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love if it does not exist.
But darling,
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
Maybe I know somewhere deep in my soul
That love never lasts.
And we've got to find other ways to make it alone.
Or keep a straight face.
And I've always lived like this
Keeping a comfortable distance.
And up until now I have sworn to myself
That I'm content with loneliness.
Because none of it was ever worth the risk.
Well you are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
I've got a tight grip on reality,
But I can't let go of what's in front of me here.
I know you're leaving in the morning when you wake up.
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream.
Oh-oh-oh-ohhh.
You are the only exception. [4x]
You are the only exception. [4x]
And I'm on my way to believing.
Oh, and I'm on my way to believing.

- The Only Exception was covered on Glee. The song was performed in the Britney Spears-themed episode "Britney/Brittany",
which aired September 28, 2010. Rachel Berry, sang the song at the end of the episode as an apology to her boyfriend Finn Hudson.
- The song was made available for download on May 15, 2012 to play in Rock Band 3 Basic and PRO mode utilizing real guitar / bass guitar,
and MIDI compatible electronic drum kits / keyboards plus vocal harmonies. It is also playable in Rock Band Blitz.
- In the scene where Haley Williams is lying on Valentine cards while singing the song's chorus, the cards are actual fan-made cards to the band.
- Many fans believe that the song was written as an ode to Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory. Haley Williams
has declined to comment directly on the issue, saying, "Read a couple blogs, and you'll figure it out."
- The man playing Hayley's dad in the video is her actual father and the guy who shares the couch with Williams at the
beginning of the clip is a friend of director Brandon Chesbro.
